All things chic, fun, and delicious from a Palm Springs local

Home Tour

I first saw the outside of this house when the current owners had just purchased it. I was doing the AIDS walk and one of my friends knew the owner so we stopped to say hello. The house was in a complete state of disrepair.  Many months later I was invited to an open house and I jumped a the chance to check out the fabulous remodel.  I was completely blown away by what was accomplished and how beautifully it was decorated.  It also struck me as a quintessential Palm Springs home just perfect for entertaining.  Most rooms in this 3 bedroom/3 1/2 bath house have walls of glass looking out to the stunning pool and mountain views.  The ultimate piece de resistance, however, is the deep marble soaking tub in the master bathroom…to die for!

Palm Greens Cafe

Palm Greens Cafe calls this drink a “healthy libation”.  Post hike I ordered a fresh squeezed juice called Earth, a lovely combination of carrot, beet, apple and ginger.  It’s such a yummy and refreshing alternative to a heavy breakfast after getting your heart rate up first thing in the morning.

Palm Greens Cafe offers fresh organic, vegetarian and vegan cuisine.  They proclaim on their menu that the have “the best gluten free vegan options in the World!”  The food is very delicious and it’s a great healthy option for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the desert.

354 contributing editor, 8 year old Charlie Reynolds, snapped this “cheeky” picture up Marilyn’s skirt!  Check out the photo I caught of the photographer in action and then his creative work is revealed.  Future Steven Meisel…Love it!!!

I love to refer to Tropicale as “Mad Men” come to life.  The main dining room has this old school supper club feel with a dash of Tiki-chic.  I have spent many special occasions in that dining room and have always enjoyed the food and the service.

Tropicale also has a fabulous happy hour and it’s among my favorites for an early dinner at the bar that often drags on for many fun hours!  I feel like it’s the kind of place where people put a little extra effort in to their outfit when they are planning to go there and I like that since in the desert shorts and flip flops can be par for the course. There is also an ambient outdoor bar and dining area.  Special tip: If you are planning a special gathering there is a wonderful section on the outdoor patio that you can reserve and have a very exclusive feel for your get together.

Their website is a great representation of the restaurant. Check out the fabulous menu online. The food is delicious and there is something for everyone. You won’t be disappointed!

330 E. Amado Road, Palm Springs;

Many refer to this hiking trail as Rimrock but I call it “The Butt Blaster”!  There are points of this trail that go straight up and it’s fabulous for the glutes.  Actually this trail is frequented by bike riders and the best informative link I could find about the trail is on a site dedicated to mountain biking:

Basically you park on the little street just north of the Vons at the Rimrock Shopping Mall, walk pass the gate and keep going and going as far up as you want.  There is also a canyon along the way that you can hike down in to with a cluster of Palm Trees that reminds me of an Ansel Adams photo.  As you reach greater heights there are spectacular views of the city, mountain, airport and windmills…it’s a wonderful way to start the day!

Vons Supermarket address is 4733 East Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs

Tara Lazar & Marco Rossetti own not one, not two, but three of my most favorite restaurants in Palm Springs!  The third is the recently debuted Jiao.  The Asian-fusion fare is beautifully spiced and creatively prepared.  I also love how the menu is constantly changing so you can always anticipate something exciting and new while still enjoying certain mainstays.  Dim sum and them some!
