A ’90s-Inspired (But Utterly Modern) Take on Monochromatic Makeup: the seven products makeup artist Robin Black uses to get the look.

The 1990s was a seminal era for me, and I often find myself unconsciously referencing makeup styles from that time (I blame The Face and i-D). However, it’s terribly boring to simply repeat, so update that beloved ’90s monochromatic look with washes of warm color in sheer textures!

Note: Maggimae hails from Kansas and has the most amazing blue eyes (un-retouched, I swear!).

PRODUCTS // Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base (used as eye shadow and cheek color), NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Iceberg, Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes in Glossy Black, Anastasia Brow Fix, Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Stoned Rose, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in 20 Beige, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (used under makeup and then patted on top of the finished look for added glow).

For all those currently mourning the loss of summer and cursing the autumnal equinox this evening, keep this in mind: Fall is pretty awesome. Just think about it: You won’t feel like you’re melting on your walk to the bodega, fall clothes rule (hello layers), you can leave that handheld spray/fan water bottle contraption at home, fall clothes rule (cozy cardigans + long sleeves), there is more to life than the beach (as much as it pains me to say), and did I mention…fall clothes r u l e? At the forefront of awesome fall collections is indie UK label Motel. For their autumn ’14 lookbook, the brand took their totally awesome collection on a woodland retreat. And even though you’d never expect to pack printed minis, metallic foil slips, textured gothic cardigans, and leopard trousers for a weekend camping excursion, you have to admit that it somehow works. Chalk it up to the collection’s versatility, or the ’90s-inspired styling, but we’re ready to relive our Girl Scouts days, ankle boots, chokers, and minis in tow.   Get a first look in the gallery, complete with styling tips by designer Hannah Parker. Then shop the looks here.

This. Is. EVERYTHING! Clearly, Athleta knows a thing or two about the daily lives of empowered women. Athleta  celebrates a woman’s  strength and control in their new #PowerToTheShe campaign.

Athleta is our favorite go-to fitness brand because it’s more than just perfectly practical, it’s totally fashion-forward.  So whatever you’ve got on your plate, Athleta can gear you up with apparel designed by and for female athletes that will easily transition into the other parts of your day.  They’ve even got an array of LBDs to sport at work or on a date!  Finally, a brand that keeps us looking and feeling both strong and chic at all times.

“Athleta customers want to do it all – they lead extremely active and busy lives but are still able to balance family, friends, exercise, work, and everything in between. Their desire to keep reaching for more is what ‘Power to the She’ is all about”, says their marketing VP.  We couldn’t agree more!  Our models were recently selected to be part of the new #PowerToTheShe campaign and totally embodied the Athleta woman.

Lauren Johnson is on top of the world right now.  Fresh off the plain from modeling in South Africa for a few months, she’s adjusting to life back in the states.  From castings, to jobs and everything in between, Lauren literally lives the slogan, ‘Power to the She’.  She loves that it reminds already strong women like her to bring that strength and independence to all aspects of their lives, and wardrobes.

15Niki Huey, mother of a beautiful little girl, could not agree more. “As a girl, I was always involved in any athletic activity that I could sign up for,” she explained. “The competitiveness and lessons taught–in both solo and team sports–is engrained in me. Now, as a mom to a young daughter, I really see and appreciate the value that sending messages of strength has to girls and women today.” As the bold narrative for the campaign suggests, Athleta understands that a woman is a source of limitless capability. We become stronger by empowering ourselves and encouraging others to strive for excellence as well. There is nothing a woman can’t do! Fo Porter, who has been one of the faces of the brand since early 2013 said she’s always felt “empowered by Athleta and all that they have to offer us women.” She went on to say, “I love who I am and the way I feel in their workout gear! Not only do I feel hot as hell, but it also drives me to kick that much more ass whatever activities I’m involved in. Whether it be in the gym, outdoors, yoga or Pilates; I’m confident in every step I take thanks to Athleta!”

Find a store or shop online at Athleta.com; there’s free shipping on orders over $50 and returns are always processed at no additional cost.

To get more fuel for a life in motion, you can also follow them on Instagram, or check out their blog.

Set to the luring instrumental of Stateless’ “Bloodstream,” our girl Sydney looks right at home on the streets of Downtown LA for this new video shot by the amazing David Camarena. Honestly, we can’t get enough of LOLA Creative and the stunning work that they produce. This time, David has outdone himself.

Screenshot 2014-09-16 09.23.48We’re always thrilled when we have the chance to collaborate with LOLA. Known for their ability to elevate brands by providing high-end visuals and allowing for those brands to stand out in a crowded marketplace, they are truly leaving their mark. With a killer team of photographers, videographers, graphic designers, art directors and producers, they specialize in the development and creation of fashion-based visual content. Excuse us, we’re fangirling over here.

Meanwhile, fresh off the tour with Wiz Khalifa, David Camarena finds himself between the worlds of fashion and music. His seamless cuts, manipulation of light and all around intriguing cinema-photography have put David at the forefront of innovative music video directors. Not to mention his pride in taking risks coupled with his endless creativity and excitement. At 21 years young, the self-trained cinematographer, editor and director spends his time filming music videos and giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of his subjects as well as bringing a unique level of visuals to fashion brands.

Screenshot 2014-09-16 09.23.21Okay. Obviously, we needed details! What’s it like working with David? Was the project as awesome of an experience as it came across on screen? We asked our gorgeous leading lady to spill it all, and it didn’t take much to get Sydney talking.

“Working on the Stateless video was an awesome experience. I love acting, so making the video was a good in-between for acting and modeling. David was really nice and fun to work with because he was open to a lot of different ideas. Exploring downtown and finding interesting locations to shoot was probably my favorite part, though. It can be so colorful at night and I loved seeing it first hand.”

Meet Greta Jimenez! Born in Cuba, Greta’s gorgeous glow comes from her Hispanic background. Read on to learn more about Greta!

How do you describe your personal style?

Comfortable and chic.

When did you know you wanted to be a model?

I had it in me since I was a little kid. I spent hours watching fashion shows and looking at models and how they modeled, what their lives were like, etc. I really found the modeling and art world fascinating.

What excites you most about being a model?

Traveling to the most beautiful places and meeting amazing people from all over the world.

What item in your closet could you never part with?

My glasses and high waisted shorts.

great2

What’s your favorite hair or make up trick?

My favorite makeup trick is putting lots of mascara to open up the eyes! I never leave the house without it! My hair trick is cheap and easy to make. I apply avocado & olive oil maybe once or twice a month to keep it shiny and healthy. And of course, Biotin supplements once a day. A must have!

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can cry very easily.

Tell a random funny story of something that happened in your past.

My most random funny story happened 2 years ago at a fashion show. Right before the show I had to run quickly to the bathroom to change outfits. In the middle of all the rush and typical craziness I never realized there was a candle on next to where I had put my pants. Seconds later the pants were on fire and burning in flames. I started panicking! It was terrifying. I almost lost my mind in the bathroom trying to get the fire off the pants! Thank God for water and human instincts! I managed to put them in the sink and turn off the fire but I’m not going to lie…the pants were a total loss! It was quite embarrassing and scary. Now, I always double check for candles when changing in the bathroom.

A brand inspired by L.A. lifestyle, Brandy Melville gained its fame among Hollywood celebrities, including The Kardashians, Ashley Benson, Audrina Patridge, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus, Karlie Kloss and many others.

The ‘Brandy Girl’ is the definition of classic character standing out in the crowd, she is refined and fashionable yet relaxed. The typical Brandy Girl is feminine with an urban twist, young at heart, active, tough, stylish, and chic in an effortless way.

Nous model Naty Belmont has been a tried-and-true Brandy Girl since she first signed with Nous Models. It’s an opportunity that millions of girls would dream of getting. We asked Naty to tell us a bit more about being a Brandy girl.

“The first time I ever worked with Brandy Melville was May of 2013. It wasn’t just my first time working with Brandy but my first time ever working as a model just in general- so I was very nervous to say the least! The whole team was so sweet and easy to get along with, I remember not ever wanting to leave. Being 14 at the time they all treated me like their little sister. The team at BM is like one big happy family.

Now that it’s been a year and a half I can definitely say it’s just like hanging out with family on set. We get so much work accomplished but we have such a fun time doing it. I don’t only get to work with a dream team, but I also get to represent such an amazing brand!!”

“The thing I love most about being a Brandy Girl is the opportunity to be a role model to younger girls; it’s always so crazy hearing from girls saying they look up to me. This brand is known, worn and loved by girls like me from all around the world and being able to represent them and their style is such a huge blessing. It honestly still blows my mind thinking about it.

My room is totally filled with Brandy Melville clothes. The collection is comfy, soft, practical and of course SO cute. I love wearing BM clothes in my everyday life. My older sister and Mom wear it too, so I know I’ll be able to keep Brandy as a part of my wardrobe for a long time to come.”
