There’s a story behind every outfit, and a few days ago we were lucky enough to have our very own Lauren Johnson share some of her style secrets with us. Thrift store shopping is essential- she hunts down gorgeous vintage pieces then mixes and matches them with her favorite brands. Growing up, she learned a lot from her Grandmother, who taught her to take pride in doing things herself. To this day she still creates the pottery she used to make with her (her backpack is her pottery bag!) and creates her own clothing, like the undershirt worn in this outfit. Lauren says her Granny is the perfect example of a strong woman, and we couldn’t agree more based on this GirlBoss outfit! Keep scrolling to check out Lauren’s personal style.

Mix and Match These 2 Fall Trends

We all know Fall is about layering, but what it really comes down to is knowing the art of mixing and matching with some of this season’s most versatile staples – leather and silk, and lots of it.space-right-size

space-right-size1. The Leather Jacketspace-right-sizeIf you don’t own one yet, it’s time you invest in a good leather jacket this season like our Zipped Up Leather Jacket! It’s oversized with a flexible, comfy fit, making it perfect for all of your layering needs. You can toss it over literally anything from a pair of leggings and an oversized t-shirt or sweater to a pair of your favorite jeans, a see-through mesh top, and shiny metallic pumps! Find yourself wearing it more than once, twice, ten times all season long. This jacket is here to stay for every cold season, every year.space-right-size

space-right-size2. The Silk Topspace-right-sizeSilk is in. We’re obsessed with this trend and are finding more and more ways to pair it and incorporate it into our everyday fall wardrobe. The best part about this trend? You can sleep in it. But, seriously this works day or night, which is like our favorite thing on earth besides pizza and Netflix. Tap into the 90s by layering it over a simple white tee or a band tee with jeans, a cool distressed jean jacket and ankle booties. For a night out, go with a high waisted mini skirt, choker, and a pair of open toe ankle booties! Nothing greater than something you can wear in bed and all the way to the dance floor.

3. Mix it up!

Now, mix and match the leather jacket with the silk top and you’ve got a third look! You can make this look work for just about whatever day you have planned out. Pair it with some blue jeans and white sneakers for a casual day look in the city or put on a suede mini skirt and strappy heels for the night out with your girls!

The Unexpected Accessory That Makes Any Outfit Pop

When you think of spring, pinks, pastels, and the like probably come to mind. But if your style isn’t overly feminine, what’s a girl to do? The key is to keep your outfit clean and simple, adding hints of color in the form of an unexpected power accessory: your lips. With sunny weather in full swing, there’s no better time than now to play up your pout with COVERGIRL’s Oh Sugar! collection. From layering your shades to creating a just-bitten look, this is how you make your lips the hero of your outfit.

Scroll down for three stylish ways to make your pout stand out.

If you want your lips to be the focal point of your look, opt for a simple silhouette in white, like this dress from the Who What Wear collection exclusively sold at Target.

When wearing neutrals, it’s easy to pile on the jewelry. But in this case, layering necklaces and earrings could distract from your lips. Instead, add a skinny scarf that’ll help keep the attention on your pout.

Using COVERGIRL Oh Sugar! Lipstick in Punch, apply to lips straight from the tube; add multiple layers to give your pout a just-bitten stained effect. The rest of your makeup should be light and natural; after adding a hint of color to your lids, finish your look with multiple coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Full Lash Bloom Mascara to emphasize your lashes and make them stand out.

3 Secrets to Toughening up Spring’s Floral Trend

What’s on every fashion girl’s mind? Spring’s arrival and the need to refresh–and ace–spring style. Take florals, for example: the classic print is taking center stage this season, and it’s begging to be modernized. So what’s the trick to making something timeless look more on trend? The solution isn’t in your closet, it’s actually in your makeup bag. With the help of COVERGIRL‘s truNaked Shadow Palette and Waterproof Eyeliner Duo, you can tackle any wardobe dilemna. From adding a smoky bronze eye to winging it, this is how to add some drama to your look and take your spring florals to the next level.

Scroll down for tips on making your floral prints edgy, along with some serious outfit inspiration.

WHO WHAT WEAR Tip 1

Looking to tone down the floral print? Top off your look with an edgy leather moto jacket, like this one from the Who What Wear collection exclusively sold at Target.

 Who What Wear Tip 2

Skinny scarves are having a major moment right now, so take advantage, because they’re one of the easiest ways to make your look instantly cool, just like a smoky eye. To get the perfect smoky eye, using COVERGIRL’s truNaked Shadow Palette in 810, apply Ginger over the entire lid, add Sunkissed to the inner corner of the eye, and blend the eye shadow in.

Who What Wear Tip 3

When you’re unsure of how to style your florals, just wing it. A defined cat eye adds drama and edge to any outfit. To complete the look, grab the truNaked Waterproof Eyeliner Duo in Ebony to draw a clean cat eye, adding a more defined winged tip with Sierra from the shadow palette.
