STYLE & BEAUTY

Hello, Dollface! After a couple years of fawning over Katya Vladykina’s flawless glow, we thought it would be only fit to get the scoop on her daily beauty routines. From natural-wear to glam-time, Katya spilled all of her secrets. To see what she advises, take a look below:

1. Is there any kind of makeup that you can’t leave the house without?

I am super simple when it comes to makeup and I love to keep my face fresh! So, I just bring my Rose or Cocoa Butter Mini Lip Vaselines (to die for) and Mario Badescu’s Rose Water Face Spray.

Vaseline – Rose

Mario Badescu – Facial Spray

Vaseline – Cocoa Butter

2. What is your daily skincare routine?

My skin care routine mostly happens before I go to bed. I wash my face with a Cera Ve Cleanser that does wonders at gently getting everything off. I’ve also been using Witch Hazel as toner – which is a natural option with lots of amazing benefits! Finishing it off, I’ve been using First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream as a deep moisturizer through the night. I wake up and just re-moisturize my face for the sun beams of the day ahead (preferably with some SPF)

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Gel

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Powder Duo

3. What is your go-to natural look? What products do you use?

My go-to natural look starts and ends with some definition on my eyes and eyebrows. I looove the brow products by Anastasia Beverly Hills and use the Brow Powder, as well as the Clear Eyebrow Gel. I ALWAYS curl my lashes, add some mascara, & voila! In my opinion, mascara is just black goop so I switch it up every time but right now I’m using Urban Decay Perversion and it’s bomb 🙂

4. What is your go-to “night out” look? What products do you use?

Now for the night out look – just add shimmer shimmer shimmer!!!! Shimmer on the cheeks in the form of a Becca Highlighter, shimmer on the eyes in the form of Stila Liquid Eye Shadow (Kitten color is gorgeous), smudge out some eyeliner, and add some lipgloss!!! My fav is White Russian by Buxom (partially because I’m Russian & very white most of the year).

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream – White Russian

STILA Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow – Kitten Karma

Becca Cosmetics – Highlighter

5. What is your favorite drugstore brand?

Growing up, Elf was the ISH!!! $1 makeup??? Heck ya!!!! However, NYX has some really bright and fun options for any occasion.

6. What is your favorite era of makeup?

Absolutely right now. I love the natural, fresh dewiness and glow. Today’s makeup accentuates natural beauty at its finest and lets the personality outshine the highlight. 😉

7. What cosmetics brand are you excited to try, but haven’t yet?

Oh man – Definitely the high end French makeup brands: Estée Lauder, Dior, YSL, etc. I’ve always dreamed of having a little vanity full of French lotions, oils, and all things lovely.

8. What is your most cherished beauty product?

COCONUT OIL – it is my forever holy grail product!!! I put it in my hair, on my body, basically everywhere I can. Not only does it make you want to eat yourself at every hour of the day, but it is so so so moisturizing on just about everything!

9. Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?

Ohmygosh, Sephora is my black hole heaven on earth – I could spend hours in there spritzing and swatching!!!!

10. What do you love about makeup?

I love that makeup is so universal. To some it adds confidence, and to other it’s self expression or a form of art. I love exploring it in all three of these ways. 🙂

As we move through the Holidays, it’s hard to resist downing all those yummy festive dishes. Therefore, we thought it would be only ‘fit’ to catch up with our Nous girl, Maitlyn, to find out what exercise means to her, as well as to pick her brain on her must-do fitness plans to work off those extra holiday pounds. Take a look at the questionnaire below to see what she has advised!:

1. Why do you work out?

In the beginning, it was pretty straightforward. The more physically fit I became, the more my self-confidence in my appearance grew, which in turn helped me book jobs more frequently.

But once I got into the habit of working out regularly, I realized that it was becoming therapeutic. After a long day of driving from casting to casting and sitting on the 101 or 405 for an ungodly amount of time, the gym became more of a reboot. It feels nice to park the car, lock your phone away and focus solely on yourself. A quick workout is a great way to relieve some stress. In short, the gym = my sanity.
2. At what age did you start monitoring your health?

If I’m being honest, it wasn’t until my mid-twenties. It was then that  I realized that I needed to hit the gym frequently if I wanted to keep up my ongoing love affair with food. TBH I miss my teenage metabolism… RIP.

3. In a typical week, how many times do you exercise?

I try to exercise at least 5x a week – which is a mix of instructor-led classes and at-home workouts.

4. Where do you typically work out?
I’m an avid ClassPass member! CP makes it easy to access gyms whenever and wherever you are. My membership lets me attend 10 classes per month for $115. I can usually be found at a Pilates reformer studio somewhere in the LA area!

Pilates Reformer

5. What do you find yourself doing the most for exercise? (lifting weights, walk, run, hike, swim, dance, aerobics, pilates, play a team sport, etc.) (you can pick more than one)

I’m going to sound like a broken record here but PILATES REFORMER. Try a class to see (and FEEL) what I’m talking about for yourself! Pilates has been the one workout I’ve found to achieve that long and lean body type, without the added bulk! I’ll also usually add in a hot yoga or hip-hop dance class each week to sweat it out (if early 00’s hip-hop comes on I’ll dance ’til I pull a muscle or embarrass myself).

4. What athletic brands have you worked with since joining Nous?

I’ve been lucky enough to work with a number of active brands through Nous such as Nikki Bikki, Carbon 38, Vimmia, Target, Nordstrom, Champion, and Reebok.

They’ve been great to work with and each has a unique style. It’s always fun trying to keep a calm face while holding a one-legged backbend. Also, it doesn’t hurt getting to work out on the job!

5. How do you feel at the end of the day post-exercising?

Sore and hungry. Just kidding, kinda. I always feel a sense of accomplishment post-workouts & know that I need to invest in myself in order to keep up in this industry. Exercise is crucial for both your mind & body.
6. What is the top reason that may deter you from exercising?

Brunch. I’m an easy sell to ditch the gym if my friends propose a fun brunch, which tends to happen a lot in LA…

Favorite spot: The Eveleigh (always extra bacon)

7. Are there any good books/videos/blogs that you would recommend to someone that is just starting out?

I’d definitely recommend home workout videos/apps for someone that’s just starting out. You can do them anytime and at your own pace without feeling self-conscious until you’re ready to get back into the gym. My go-to home workout is an 8-minute ab video from the 80’s (picture AC Slater in spandex), followed by 8-minute buns. 13 million hits can’t be wrong!
8. What was the greatest obstacle that you overcame in your workouts?
More than anything, it was not being afraid to fail. With ClassPass, you’re constantly walking into new classes with new instructors & each of them have unique methods & techniques. It can be intimidating walking into something new each day knowing that many of the participants are regulars. I have to remind myself not to compare myself to others, but sometimes if you miss a move, just copy your neighbor.

9. Is there anything else that you would like to include in regards to health that you feel would benefit Nous’ readers?

The number one thing and quite possibly the hardest thing to do is to not compare yourself to others! It’s only natural to have insecurities, but the most important thing to do is to focus on yourself.
It’s refreshing to see the industry and brands increasing their focus on both mental and physical health. It’s something that has been overlooked for a long time so I hope that this continues to be something that we support and celebrate.

Looking for a new look to rock this summer? Well, we have just the solution! This past week our girl, Alyssa Miller, launched her modern take on western-wear, collaborating with Understated Leather. We couldn’t be more in love with the results and knew we just had to share it with all of you! For those that want to learn more about her collaboration, we have good news. Upon the launch, Alyssa sat down with  W Magazine, offering all the exclusive deets on her new line. View the full interview below!:

W Magazine: How did this partnership with Understated Leather come to life?

AM: Jen, who owns and operates Understated Leather, and I became close friends and just started chatting about it casually and eventually decided to collaborate. It’s been a dream to work with my bestie on my first collection.

W Magazine: What was your inspiration for the collection?

AM: I was very inspired by Nudie and Roncelli suits, and western wear in general. I loved the idea of having a few pieces of the same collection and being able to wear them together as suit wear, throwing a jacket on with jeans, or the shorts with a classic white button up tied at the waist.

W Magazine: From music to modeling, you’re a multi-hyphenate. Did you always plan on venturing into design as well?

AM: I wear many hats, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having been a model for so long I learned a lot about clothes, design, and style. So I think it was a matter of time before I started working on my own designs. I didn’t realize exactly how rewarding it could be to see your concepts go from mind to paper to being born into actuality. I loved the process. I imagine it will be even more so seeing all the beautiful women of the world actually wearing them.

W Magazine: Take me through the design process with the Understated Leather team. How did this collaboration work?

AM: Jen was amazing, she was very hands off and let me conceptualize the entire collection and every piece I wanted. We then worked with a designer on fit. We worked very hard to make sure that every piece was as flattering and flawless as possible. I relentlessly pushed every detail, the pants I am particularly proud of. A good suede pant is very hard to come by—I know because I’ve searched endlessly. So I’m proud to say I think we made the perfect pair.

W Magazine: The collection seems to be based around the brand’s Texan roots. Was this intentional?

AM: With both Jen and I being based out of Austin I think it was impossible to avoid. We both love and embrace western culture and are inspired by it every day out here. I wanted to find a way of meshing city wear with Texas country cowboy wear. I want to take a bit of Texas with me everywhere I go.

W Magazine: What would you say is your signature touch in the collection?

AM: The embroidery is to me, what makes this collection so special and spectacular. It reminds me of something you might find on a vintage piece. Something that if you were to find in a vintage shop you might die from excitement.

W Magazine: You also styled the campaign—what is your styling philosophy?

AM: In this case it was less is more. I used only vintage white blouses and t- shirts from my vintage collection for Pilgrim, a bit of a signature of mine. The great thing about this collection is that it really speaks for itself, it didn’t need much.

W Magazine: You took a three day road-trip to West Texas for the campaign. What was that like?

AM: I wanted it to feel like a journey, like an adventure, and it was one. We almost ran out of gas on a country road with nothing around for miles. We talked for hours, we shared our stories and offered our advice. We almost peed our pants while waiting for the next rest stop, then ate all the crappy convenience store snacks and drank wine straight from the bottle at night. We shot when we came upon something interesting that helped tell our story. We shot when it felt right, and when it didn’t, we didn’t. It was perfect.

W Magazine: Do you feel your friendship helped shape this collection?

AM: My friendships shape everything I do, but this one in particular especially. Jen offered me a safe place to design my first collection and Harper offered me a safe and open collaboration in image making as well. Having been in the industry for so long I know how hard that is to come by. To be able to speak freely about what it is I want and need to convey and to have Harper be so receptive was truly a gift. Capturing an exact mood, a feeling, is incredibly hard to do and I would never have been able to do it with out them.

W Magazine: Who are your style icons?

AM: Bianca and Mick Jagger, Françoise Hardy, Pattie Boyd… too many to count.

There’s a story behind every outfit, and a few days ago we were lucky enough to have our very own Lauren Johnson share some of her style secrets with us. Thrift store shopping is essential- she hunts down gorgeous vintage pieces then mixes and matches them with her favorite brands. Growing up, she learned a lot from her Grandmother, who taught her to take pride in doing things herself. To this day she still creates the pottery she used to make with her (her backpack is her pottery bag!) and creates her own clothing, like the undershirt worn in this outfit. Lauren says her Granny is the perfect example of a strong woman, and we couldn’t agree more based on this GirlBoss outfit! Keep scrolling to check out Lauren’s personal style.

Mix and Match These 2 Fall Trends

We all know Fall is about layering, but what it really comes down to is knowing the art of mixing and matching with some of this season’s most versatile staples – leather and silk, and lots of it.space-right-size

space-right-size1. The Leather Jacketspace-right-sizeIf you don’t own one yet, it’s time you invest in a good leather jacket this season like our Zipped Up Leather Jacket! It’s oversized with a flexible, comfy fit, making it perfect for all of your layering needs. You can toss it over literally anything from a pair of leggings and an oversized t-shirt or sweater to a pair of your favorite jeans, a see-through mesh top, and shiny metallic pumps! Find yourself wearing it more than once, twice, ten times all season long. This jacket is here to stay for every cold season, every year.space-right-size

space-right-size

space-right-size2. The Silk Topspace-right-sizeSilk is in. We’re obsessed with this trend and are finding more and more ways to pair it and incorporate it into our everyday fall wardrobe. The best part about this trend? You can sleep in it. But, seriously this works day or night, which is like our favorite thing on earth besides pizza and Netflix. Tap into the 90s by layering it over a simple white tee or a band tee with jeans, a cool distressed jean jacket and ankle booties. For a night out, go with a high waisted mini skirt, choker, and a pair of open toe ankle booties! Nothing greater than something you can wear in bed and all the way to the dance floor.

space-right-size

3. Mix it up!

Now, mix and match the leather jacket with the silk top and you’ve got a third look! You can make this look work for just about whatever day you have planned out. Pair it with some blue jeans and white sneakers for a casual day look in the city or put on a suede mini skirt and strappy heels for the night out with your girls!
