Fashion

Well, who said street wear has to be “dressed down?” When people think of street fashion, they generally think of a scale of things from baggy tops to sweat pants, all influenced by the Jenny from the Block era. However, in Tassia’s newest Spring 2017 shoot for manufacturing company, Topson Downs, we are reminded that street can also mean chic! From Bohemian dresses to fashionable embroidered denim jackets, this modernized style of street wear has us running to our nearest mall!

Wanting to create a bold statement? Spice up your neutral-toned outfit with these adorable bomber jackets! It will keep you nice & toasty, all while keeping you looking glam. The brands you can shop under Topson Downs are currently Elwood, Love Fire, Tinseltown, Rachel Roy, Jay Walker, and Arrive.

Also, something to note when browsing this brand, is that they have deep love for their local community! Over the past three years, Topson has “adopted” over 30 families for the holidays by providing gifts and necessities to these special families.  Also, Topson has been a big supporter of the Red Cross through disaster relief donation, blood drives, and apparel donations. Therefore, Topson’s message for street style extends far past apparel, but also how one is to treat their street-side neighbors. How cool!

For any model, making it into the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is a dream come true…so when Danielle Herrington walked into the SI Swim casting call and was chosen to be a #SIswim rookie you can bet we were doing victory laps. We asked Danielle a few questions below about her SI swim experience to get an insider’s look on the famed shoot.

What was the audition process like?

“The audition was really fun–they asked me questions about my personality and hobbies. I absolutely love dancing, so they played music and and asked me to twerk! It was the best audition ever.

How did you prepare for the SI Swim shoot?

I looked at the past issues of SI, made sure I knew my angles, and did a daily workout of running and boxing to keep in shape. Also eating mostly protein and veggies–healthy eating makes a huge difference!

What was your first reaction when you found out you were chosen as a Rookie?

I was in NY at the laundromat when I was called into my agency. My agent seemed really relaxed over the phone so it didn’t seem very important. When I got to the agency all she said to me was “Read this!” It was an email saying I was chosen to be a Rookie in the 2017 swimsuit issue!!!! My first reaction was disbelief. I couldn’t believe that I had only been in NY 6 months and had booked one of my dream jobs! After that I was just really nervous and excited.

How cool was the VIBES festival?

It was amazing! The most exciting part was getting to meet all of the women in the issue, and being able to come together and have such a good time with all of them.

How far was away was the set?

It took me about 20 hours to get to Fiji from NY. It was my first time flying first class, so I enjoyed every second of it! I think I smiled the whole way there! 🙂

What was the best part about shooting in Fiji for SI Swim?

It was only my second time out of the US, so I couldn’t  have asked for a better location! The ocean is crystal clear, the people in Fiji were the sweetest and it was so peaceful. Hands down, it was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.

The party might be over, the 🔥🔥🔥🔥 continues with @danielle_herrington_ @si_swimsuit

Do you have any funny stories from being on set?

The photographer, Yu Tsai, is one of a kind! He is crazy in the best way, and so unfiltered, which I love! I got very comfortable with really quickly. The whole team mostly laughed at whatever came out of his mouth.

What was is like to be part of a female-driven body positive shoot team?

It was incredible, everyone was so encouraging! While shooting everyone is working together to get the best shot possible. It was a lot of “YASS GIRL!” comments.

How has your hard work and consistency contributed your success as a model?

Its been the biggest factor of my success. Once I stopped complaining and put in the work it payed off. Consistency is essential–nothing happens over night! Also, keeping a positive mind set is very important. You can’t beat yourself up because things aren’t happening for you when you think it should.

What’s the most important thing you took away from your SI Swim experience?

Beauty come from within, it’s not a size. Most importantly, if you have a dream go for it and don’t give up on yourself. It might not be easy, but it’ll be worth it. I know it’s something people say a lot but it’s so true!”

In addition to being the most anticipated magazine release of the year, this historic issue teamed up with WomenIRL to set a body-positive stage for models of all ages, shapes and nationalities to be recognized for their beauty and strength. Modeling next to the likes of Chrissy Teigen and Kate Upton, Danielle was a newcomer who blew away SI Swim’s team with her incredible talent and professionalism.

Danielle counts her friends and family as her most prized possessions, and credits them for tirelessly supporting her as she follows her dreams. After joining the roster of supermodels who have graced SI Swim’s pages, we can’t wait to see where she goes next. EmilyFW

If you haven’t been following Emily Hall on social media yet, now is the time to start. This gorgeous girl continues to take the fashion world by storm with her tireless work ethic, most recently leading her to walking thirteen shows in Madrid Fashion Week in four days. After a stunning debut in New York, Milan, and London, it was only fitting for Madrid to be next on her tour de force.

Emily sent her MFW client list à la napkin, right before her first job in the morning.

Walking for sought-after international designers like Menchén Tomás, Maria Ke Fishermann, and Andrés Sardá saw her repping all the trends we look forward to seeing in the coming seasons, from vintage glam to modern rebel. (Also, we’d say strutting down the runway in a Marie Antoinette getup fulfills every girl’s modeling daydream.) One of our particular favorites was Teresa Helbig‘s Old Money collection, which took aristocratic fashion for a playful romp through 70’s flair with maximalist detailing.

When asked for a complete list of all the designers she walked for, this busy bee scrawled it on a napkin at a cafe before heading to her first job in the morning. (Now that’s dedication!) We couldn’t be more thrilled to see this #girlboss’s dreams coming true, one step at a time. Keep scrolling to see how Emily rocked Madrid Fashion Week.

MFW Day 2: Juan Vidal, Ángel Schlesser, Ion Fiz

MFW Day 3: Andrés Sardá, Roberto Torretta, Teresa Helbig, Menchén Tomás

MFW Day 4: Ailanto, Maria Ke Fisherman

MFW Day 5: The 2nd Skin Co, Alvarno, Jorge Vázquez, Olivia

We can’t wait to snag their silky Long Kimono in the perfect spring pink, layered over a Knit Dress for classy-casual look. If you’re looking for the perfect Valentine’s day outfit, we recommend an Off the Shoulder Dress with their classic Oversized Bomber– it’s the perfect mix of sexy and sporty. After seeing Free People’s latest collection, it was hard to decide which we loved more– the gorgeous intimates or Alyssa Miller’s stunning photography. Electric Love is a series of romantic and whimsical shifts, bodysuits, and vintage bra and panty sets sure to satisfy the most discerning bohemian girl, just in time for Valentine’s day. We’re over the moon over the Breaking Hearts bodysuit seen on Alyssa below, with metallic detailing and lace panelling that can be dressed up or down. Our new fave lounging outfit is sure to be the Gigi Robe thrown over their Frame Up soft bra and some Flirty Shorts for the perfect cute & comfy ensemble. Alyssa used self-portraiture to capture all of the collection’s photos, relying only on her own perspective. You can get an in-depth look at her self-portrait process, her artistic story, and how she approaches self-love in an interview with Joanna Rentz for Free People’s blog (BLDG 25), here.  Keep scrolling to see how Alyssa wears and photographs Free People!

There’s a story behind every outfit, and a few days ago we were lucky enough to have our very own Lauren Johnson share some of her style secrets with us. Thrift store shopping is essential- she hunts down gorgeous vintage pieces then mixes and matches them with her favorite brands. Growing up, she learned a lot from her Grandmother, who taught her to take pride in doing things herself. To this day she still creates the pottery she used to make with her (her backpack is her pottery bag!) and creates her own clothing, like the undershirt worn in this outfit. Lauren says her Granny is the perfect example of a strong woman, and we couldn’t agree more based on this GirlBoss outfit! Keep scrolling to check out Lauren’s personal style.
