Fo Porter

One of the things we love about social media is the ability to share and receive all kinds of images of our girls, the work that they do and the work that they inspire. When we realized how amazing these were and how many there were, we decided to pay it forward and make it a regular thing. So from now on, we’re going to be giving shout outs to the fabulous artists that have graciously chosen our girls at muses for their work. Have more than a few pieces of our girls?  You may just get your own feature on Nous Zine!  Keep up the great work guys, you inspire us more than you know!

Want us to share your sketch, graphic art, or painting?  Tag @Nousmodels and hashtag #MyNousWork on Instagram or Twitter for us to spot and share your artwork as inspired by the ladies of Nous Models.

This. Is. EVERYTHING! Clearly, Athleta knows a thing or two about the daily lives of empowered women. Athleta  celebrates a woman’s  strength and control in their new #PowerToTheShe campaign.

Athleta is our favorite go-to fitness brand because it’s more than just perfectly practical, it’s totally fashion-forward.  So whatever you’ve got on your plate, Athleta can gear you up with apparel designed by and for female athletes that will easily transition into the other parts of your day.  They’ve even got an array of LBDs to sport at work or on a date!  Finally, a brand that keeps us looking and feeling both strong and chic at all times.

“Athleta customers want to do it all – they lead extremely active and busy lives but are still able to balance family, friends, exercise, work, and everything in between. Their desire to keep reaching for more is what ‘Power to the She’ is all about”, says their marketing VP.  We couldn’t agree more!  Our models were recently selected to be part of the new #PowerToTheShe campaign and totally embodied the Athleta woman.

Lauren Johnson is on top of the world right now.  Fresh off the plain from modeling in South Africa for a few months, she’s adjusting to life back in the states.  From castings, to jobs and everything in between, Lauren literally lives the slogan, ‘Power to the She’.  She loves that it reminds already strong women like her to bring that strength and independence to all aspects of their lives, and wardrobes.

15Niki Huey, mother of a beautiful little girl, could not agree more. “As a girl, I was always involved in any athletic activity that I could sign up for,” she explained. “The competitiveness and lessons taught–in both solo and team sports–is engrained in me. Now, as a mom to a young daughter, I really see and appreciate the value that sending messages of strength has to girls and women today.” As the bold narrative for the campaign suggests, Athleta understands that a woman is a source of limitless capability. We become stronger by empowering ourselves and encouraging others to strive for excellence as well. There is nothing a woman can’t do! Fo Porter, who has been one of the faces of the brand since early 2013 said she’s always felt “empowered by Athleta and all that they have to offer us women.” She went on to say, “I love who I am and the way I feel in their workout gear! Not only do I feel hot as hell, but it also drives me to kick that much more ass whatever activities I’m involved in. Whether it be in the gym, outdoors, yoga or Pilates; I’m confident in every step I take thanks to Athleta!”

Find a store or shop online at Athleta.com; there’s free shipping on orders over $50 and returns are always processed at no additional cost.

To get more fuel for a life in motion, you can also follow them on Instagram, or check out their blog.

The folks over at Graffiti Beach did a profile on Fo for this month’s issue. Lucas Passmore photographed Fo in styles all available through Graffiti Beach. In the interview Fo gives her history, talks about ANTM, her dog Oro, Star Wars, Comic-Con, and a general love for superheroes. If she were a super-hero her name would be “Jedi-Fo” and she would be “A Jedi who can Fly!” Check out the rest of the interview in the magazine which is available online!

Whether you’re based in Los Angeles or not, there’s a good chance that you’ve heard of Runyon Canyon. According to their official site, “Runyon Canyon is a 160-acre park smack dab in the heart of everything – a stone’s throw away from the historic Hollywood strip.” The park provides various hiking trails, scenic outlooks, free daily yoga classes and areas for meditating. Angelinos can often spot fitness instructors, celebrities and our models of course while hiking.

  • Walk at your own pace. There are several hiking routes that vary in difficulty where some are more challenging than others. It’s important to recognize what works best for you then progress to the others. Continue on to Runyon Canyon‘s site to learn more about each hiking route.
  • Do not get discouraged by those who seem to be pros at it, instead be inspired!
  • Always remember to stretch! You can prevent serious injuries by stretching prior to working out.
  • Get a walking buddy, it’s always great to have someone to push and motivate you to make it to the top.
  • Bring a camera! There’s no way you can hike this beautiful canyon without taking pictures.

Photography by Kesler Tran

Raw beauty mixed with rays of sunlight emerge from every photo story we get from Kesler Tran when he shoots our beautiful Nous Girls. We wanted to know what inspires him and his work, so we asked!

How did you get into photography?

Tran: I started out about 4 years ago, worked hard to advance my taste and direction, my growth happened through failure. Naw thats all BS, I’m just blessed to have a gift that I can share with the world through artistic visual media.

What inspires your photography?

Tran: I’m inspired by lighting and also challenging views and rich shadows are what keep me motivated.

We are obsessed with your photo shoot locations! If you could choose any location to for a shoot, where would it be?

Tran: My dream location would be a deserted Island, or a location where there is a house in the middle of the sea with glass floors where I can see dolphins swimming underneath. If that is too much to ask, I’ll settle for anything that isn’t in LA.
