How did your career as a model begin? Were you scouted or attend an open call?

I was actually scouted at a One Direction concert in Pasadena last year.

How do you maintain that gorgeous mane? Do you do conditioning treatments or use special products for curly hair?

I use conditioner in my hair everyday in the shower, and then I put on Leave In Conditioner from Neutrogena right before I go to bed.

Do you ever flat iron your hair? Do you prefer your hair curly or straight?

If I have time, I sometimes flat iron my hair. I do prefer it straight because it is easier to brush out, which makes a HUGE difference with long hair. I do like how my wavy hair looks when it’s brushed out though.

What are your top 5 must have skincare/makeup products?

My top 5 skincare/makeup products are my Actifirm face wash, moisturizer, Z-Peel, my Sephora Collection liquid eyeliner, and clear mascara for keeping my eyebrows in place.

How do you stay fit? Do you follow a specific diet?

I’ve been dancing for over 11 years, and I dance five days a week after school. I’ve never felt the need to follow a specific diet since I love food. I tend to eat more during dinner after dancing, so that I don’t dance on a full stomach.

Who are some of your favorite fashion designers?

Some of my favorite designers are Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton because I like how they have a classic, yet modern vibe to their pieces.

What has been your most memorable experience so far in your career?

My most memorable experience in my career was when I did a shoot at the LINE Hotel in LA with another girl from Nous named Lyzy. The hotel was a really fun place to shoot at because it had a modern, yet urban look to it, which I loved since I like traditional modern architecture.

Who are some photographers you are dying to work with?

I actually don’t have any photographers in particular in mind, because each photographer I’ve worked with has their own unique style. However, some of my favorite photographers I’ve worked with so far are Eddie Chacon, David Lim, Farhad Samari, Ed McGowan, and David Choi.

Describe your personal style. Do you like to dress up or down?

For the most part my style is usually casual, yet put together, and has a classic vibe to it. Some of my favorite pieces to wear are some of my matching sets and high wasted pieces.

What advice do you have for someone interested in pursuing a modeling career?

This might sound cheesy but never give up on your dreams! You will get rejected a lot, but it will pay off in the end if you work hard and keep an open mind. In addition, be sure to advocate for yourself.

Tell us how you got your start in the fashion industry?

My mom entered me in a local modeling contest when I was younger. I was scouted by agents there from a local agency who placed me with a bigger agency.

Describe your personal style. Do you prefer heels or flats?

I would say my style is Free People meets Zara. I love boho but with a little edge. Little heeled booties are the perfect mix between high heels and flats, so comfy but they still give you that extra little height!

What are your thoughts on photo retouching?

You know, I think like anything in life photoshop wouldn’t be so bad if it was in moderation!  It could be a great tool to save time and do fun stuff with color editing and filtering but it when people take it too far and completely recreate unrealistic faces and bodies and pass it off as normal, that bothers me.

Who are some of your fashion/beauty icons? Who inspires you?

My favorite models are Natalia Vodianova and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley because they are so effortless with their style but still aspirational.  However, now with so many amazing bloggers and Pinterest and Instagram I think it’s hard to say I have just one fashion icon. With social media there is style inspiration everywhere, so that’s usually where I go to get inspired.  Social media has created a way for anyone to become a fashion inspiration!

How do you maintain such long and healthy hair? Do you ever do keratin treatments or other conditioning masks?

Hair is my thing! I always joke I would be notthiiinngg without my hair! I use Oribe shampoo and conditioner and Moroccan Oil hairspray, it keeps my hair smelling so good and It feels like a dream! I also think most hair damage comes from bad colorists or over using hot tools on your hair. You gotta protect it because once it’s damaged, it’s so hard to get back to a good place!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened during a shoot and what has been the most rewarding experience so far in your career?

My most embarrassing fashion moment was when I walked into a glass door as I was walking in to meet the client.  Full on face squished against the glass; everyone behind me saw it and every one on the other side of the glass saw too. It was hard to recover (especially because I really thought I broke my nose)… Oops!

My most rewarding experiences in the industry have been all the beautiful places I have gotten to see… From exotic beaches, to Europe, to snow in Portland in August!  100 percent the most amazing feeling is when you get to go to work in places that take your breath away you feel #blessed! Meeting people from all over the world and different walks of life is also something I never want to take for granted.  People are so amazing with so much to share, especially in a creative industry. I get to meet new ones everyday and that is a beautiful thing.

What beauty/skincare products can you not live without?

Skin care is pretty much all Kiehl’s.  I’ve tried other things but I always go back.  Especially their skin brightening scrub and daily moisturizer!  For beauty products, I use Armani mascara and Nars Glo foundation.

How do you stay fit? Do you do cardio, lunges, squats, etc.. Do you follow a specific diet?

I do yoga sculpt, which is hot yoga with weights!  I have done a lot of exersize classes and hands down I have to say I have never seen results like I do with sculpt!   The combination of weights and the stretching aspects makes such nice long lean muscles and you sweat out all the extra water weight! Since I live in LA I have to add hiking to my routine!  It’s so nice to get outside and enjoy our beautiful city!  Diet wise, I do your basic clean eating stuff. Salads, fruits, veggies, lean protein (I know, it’s boring) and then one day a week I let myself have whatever I want. Having a cheat day at the end of my week keeps me going strong or otherwise I would feel so deprived!

What advice do you have for aspiring models who are seeking representation with an agency?

My advice is to be natural!  Agents want to see you as you are, not with loads of makeup.  Wear something simple, body conscious, and not too distracting.

I know the feeling of wanting to get all dolled up, but it isn’t what they are looking for. You will get all that on your photo shoots, I promise.  Lastly, be kind to yourself!  Not everyone is cut out for modeling, based off of things you might not have control over, but that does not mean it is based off of whether you are beautiful or not.

Agents are looking for other things that don’t have to do with being the most beautiful girl, such as height, face angles, marketability, photogenic range… Basically things you are more or less born with.   There is a range of modeling from high fashion to commercial print so try and find your niche and that is where you will be the most successful.
