Long are the days of decorating a shoebox pink and red and anxiously awaiting for it to be filled with your classmate’s (and secret crush’s) Valentines. But even though you may have outgrown those elementary school surprises, the youthful spirit of this holiday can still be incorporated into your -dare we say it- adult celebrations. After all, growing up means getting to do something much more fun and flirty anyways.

We dare you to indulge in what YOU like on the day devoted to L.O.V.E. A fanatic of books? Make a date with an indie bookshop in your town and hide away in a velvet chair reading Nicholas Sparks for hours (just don’t forget to stash a ton Kleenex in your purse). A nature girl? Grab a disposable camera and head to that new hiking trail you’ve been wanting to explore; this old-school option will give you a much needed vacation from your current iPhone camera app while adding in an element of surprise, making it that much more fun to develop later.

Whatever your choosing, this photoshoot by Ericka McConnell starring Khloe will inspire you to tap into your inner-child and fulfill all that your heart desires. Its whimsical, romantic undertones are the perfect backdrop for daydreams of love this Valentine’s Day- whether that means for yourself or a special someone. And if all else fails, that Michael Kors shoebox in your closet could make for a nice D.I.Y. project.

Romance isn’t something we typically celebrate in our everyday wardrobe. Between school, work, and brunch with friends, our favorite pair of jeans and a staple jacket usually does the trick. But for those times when life calls for something a bit more daring than our ordinary look – hello, Valentine’s Day – we suddenly find ourselves thrashing through the back of our closets for something different. Maybe it’s the pressure of what we think we’re supposed to look like (e.g. a Victoria’s Secret Angel), rather than what we actually want to feel like. Or, maybe it’s the fact that the pressure to impress seems to accompany most obviously drop-dead sexy style choices. The definition of romance, however, is open to interpretation. Yours, that is!

Throw those painful stilettos and cliché bandage dresses aside: a realistically flirty look should be achieved with soft, flowing and elegantly understated details. Oftentimes we’re dressing for girls, but when it comes to romance that’s in fact not what appeals most to guys. Case in point – guys aren’t looking to hang out with over-the-top Beverly Hills Barbie; they’d rather keep it cool with down-to-earth and effortlessly sexy, Miss Penny Lane. That’s why we’re loving Planet Blue’s recent lookbook chock-filled with soft, romantic options that are subtly suggestive all with the laid back and “au natural” appeal of your favorite white tee, black bra situation that your man loves so much. Let’s face it, we’re all lovestruck for simplicity and comfort.

Known for being the epitome of cool, authentic style, Planet Blue’s Heartbreak Hotel collection carries with it just the right amount of romance that flows perfectly in its own free-spirited way. Tereza looked purely ethereal in the shoot, her stunning looks accentuated with touches of lace and balanced details. A flirty, flowing romper shows off her enviable gams, while the longsleeves conceal and leave something to the imagination. Similarly, an eye-catching Love & Lemons dress brings a romantic dose of red lace, and its sheer sleeves actually achieve a more stand-out style choice than the typical spaghetti strap. And a stunning magenta gown is sealed with a kiss of lace and an intimate surprise: it’s backless.

Davia Gomez, Hurley, Swimwear, Swimsuits, Bikini, Athletic Wear, Workout Gear, Nous Models, Nous Model Management

On a sunny SoCal day, Davia Gomez visited Nous Models HQ to talk all things Hurley. Dressed in a short Forever 21 frock and adorable booties, the average passerby might be surprised to discover that this seemingly girly-girl is the face of Hurley, a household name among surfers and skateboarders. But as any good story begins, there’s more than meets the eye. Find out how this brand became one of her favorites as Davia spills the deets on why she loves Hurley.

“They are like family,” she says of the Costa Mesa-based brand. A born-and-raised California girl herself, Davia’s father was one of the original founders of Hurley (NBD), and her brother and boyfriend now also call it home. “Both of them work there!” she exclaims with a smile on her face as she describes a typical visit to Hurley offices. “Everyone is so laid back, kind, and down-to-earth. My boss, Riana, is like a sister to me.” On set, Davia says she feels just as much love. “The photographer is really cool, he’s so fun to shoot with,” she shares of the talented Derek Bahn, whose resume is chock-full of mega beach babes – we’re only fangirling a little. Promise.

Thanks in part to that homey-vibe, it’s easy to tell that Davia has a deep connection to Hurley. Starting at a young age with the Hurley Girls line, Davia has literally grown up in and around Hurley, eventually moving on to active wear and finally swim. In addition to getting first picks on some of the best new bikinis, Davia has an insider’s knowledge on the clothing itself. “Everything is really well-made. They use such great material.” One of Davia’s favorite picks: this leather jacket, which we immediately envisioned ourselves adventuring around town in. As for the scoop on swimwear, Davia says the options are endless (which is good news for your spring break packing list. Just saying. We don’t believe in coincidences.)

We could talk clothes for hours, naturally, but when asked how she would describe Hurley in one word, Davia chose the word creative. “They have an amazingly talented team.” She raves about the Hurley Women’s clothing designers Tanya and Natasha, who help style Davia on shoots. Davia also believes Hurley is ahead of the activewear game when it comes to art and photography. We even learned that the brand was recently featured in Japanese Vogue, and that’s something few active lines can say they’ve accomplished.

Davia was literally born to be the face of Hurley, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for their future. In the mean time, you’ll find Davia traveling along the California coastline going to and from Hurley events and being a part of the brand that she loves and has become her family. It’s nice to see that the ultimate beach babe keeps her feet on the ground – or in this case, the sand.

Come midnight on December 25th, we’ve officially maxed out on the yuletide cheer. Between (almost) overdosing on sugar cookies and taking one too many pictures in ugly Christmas sweaters, the last thing we want to do is figure out what to wear on New Year’s Eve. But you’re in luck: with the help of Necessary Clothing and our girl Greta, we’ve rounded up some fabulous options for you to rock on glitziest night of the year. so you can now spend more of your precious holiday vacation moments sleeping in (a.k.a dodging out-of-town relatives who’ve well-overstayed their visit).

New Year’s Eve is the one day of the year where the more sparkles you have, the better. If you want to shimmer your way through the night, look no further than the Bex Bandage Dress and Ariana Sequin Dress – two dazzling options that will be sure to keep your date’s eyes on you. Both pair well with neutral accessories: simple jewelry and nude or black heels are a nice balance to the show-stopping dress.

If your style preferences lean towards “less is more,” we’ve got you covered. The LBD is a chic look any time of year, and New Year’s is the perfect opportunity to give it a twist. We love the Iris Lace Maxi Dress and the Sunrise Lace Dress for an elegant alternative –but equally stunning — option to a sparkly frock.

For the bold of heart, what better way to say “I’m different” (2 Chainz voice) than wearing a pair of killer bottoms to your soiree of choice. These dressy sweatpants are a dream come true for those who crave something comfy-cozy. Pair them with a fun faux-fur vest and simple top for the perfect party look. If you’re more in the mood to show off those new shoes Santa got you, try on these glam shorts – perfect for dancing the night away.

Wherever life takes you this New Year’s Eve, know that you’ll be well-dressed (and well-prepared) for those Instagram photo shoots. Happy 2015!

How NOT To Be Awkward At Parties: 6 Outfits That Save The Day

“Claiming that we’re “awkward” is probably our go-to way to self-deprecate. It’s simply because we’ve all been that girl — the one who’s holding so many hors d’oeuvres she doesn’t have a spare limb to shake a stranger’s hand. Or, the one who can’t walk across a room without spilling her beverage, and for whom the term “small talk” makes her wince. And, this time of year — the Olympics of social gatherings — our graces are really put to the test.

Well, we’re putting our hard-learned lessons to better use: helping you navigate the holiday party circuit with a few clever style solutions. Yes, your outfit can help. There are accessories so cool they’re automatic icebreakers, clothes that will hide a margarita dribble, and other precautionary measures that are so much more than fancy and festive. Read on and ease those nerves, party girl.

The Smooth Mover

Let’s kick it off with the simplest of soiree-snafu solutions: The pretty party flats.

If you’re not the heel-wearing kind of girl during the day, there’s no pressure to step outside your comfort zone come playtime.

Plus, take into consideration what the night could have in store:

Will you be strolling from one shindig to the next? Will there even be anywhere to sit?

If you foresee yourself being the girl who’s hobbling around unhappily, a grounded pair of party shoes —

think metallic cap toes, glittery fabrics, bold colors — will be your sole mate.

The Spiller

You can hardly finish a cocktail or pop a few apps into your mouth without the evidence showing up on your clothes.

While your dry cleaner may love you for it, being a messy eater isn’t so great for soft, solid colors or, ya know, Instagram.

If you’re a chronic spiller, opt for busy prints that will hide any drops or smears.

And, for those who expect to be around a more rambunctious crowd,

look to incorporate easy-to-clean-up materials like patent leather or even a bit of PVC.

The Dancing Queen

When the DJ finally plays your jam, all bets are off.

Arms and legs are a-flailing, your shimmy is next-level, and the old “dance like no one’s watching” trope becomes a bit too true.

And, while short or loose hems may lead to accidental flashing, more importantly,

you’d rather not be the girl who’s wiggling uncomfortably in a look not made for dancing.

Break out the jewel-encrusted party pants that won’t keep you awkwardly bouncing at the mercy of your dress.

You’re the friend-of-the-friend’s +1, and you can’t remember the name of the only other familiar person in the room.

While it may seem safe to comment on the weather, it’s also kind of a snooze.

If you’re not a lover of small talk, come equipped with an instant icebreaker

in the form of statement jewelry, especially placed near your face.

Trust: If there’s a pretty, sparkly object looking back at them,

your new friends will likely remark and you can lead the convo from there.

It’s so much better than bonding over the Polar Vortex.

The Free-Hander

It’s easy to spot a fellow awkward girl by looking at her hands.

They’re a bit fidgety; they move from a countertop to her hip, now back to the countertop, and then…err, no, play with your hair!

Some of you may choose to cling to a beverage, milking it for the duration of the evening.

But, we prefer a practical fashion solution: the pocketed party dress.

Not only do the side details add dimension to the design, they also serve as the perfect little safety nook for jittery digits.

The Nosher

Let’s just say we’re not the kind of guests who pass up the cheese platter.

Can you dip it? Is it wrapped in prosciutto? We’re in.

Naturally, the foodies of the fête will have a hard time balancing a clutch and soon find themselves

totally out of spare hands when it’s time to shake someone else’s or return a text.

In this case, crossbody carryalls with easy-to-open compartments are key.

You have friends to meet and canapés to indulge in — think of your priorities.”

The first time we watched MINKPINK’s Spring 2015 campaign video, we were too preoccupied by the graphic coverups and swim suits (still can’t get over that shark-printed bikini) to give the storyline the attention it deserved. So we watched it again (and again and again) and totally got swept up by The Beaches’ riotous soundtrack and the pure badass-ness of MINKPINK mega babes Taylor Hannum and Kamilla Alnes. While we were totally into the girl powerness of it all, we couldn’t help but fixate on the super incredible water aerobics instructor. We wanted to know more—like where did he get his moves and what were his thoughts on the whole Glam-ma showdown?

As luck would have it, MINKPINK had another video up their sleeve: one that focuses completely on said instructor, whose name just so happens to be Theyoncé. Watch the short clip below to learn more.

If the thought of covering your face in skeleton makeup makes you giddy, then this is not the tutorial for you. But if you’re looking for a Halloween makeup look that’s pretty and wearable, rather than frightening and time-intensive, read on! This year, we suggest using the occasion as an excuse to wear dramatic false eyelashes, play with runway-inspired faux freckles, and paint on as much pink makeup as you please. To bring the vision to life, we asked celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen to create a doll-inspired Halloween look that’s easy to copy.

Scroll through to see the step-by-step tutorial on how to be a doll this Halloween (in the least creepy way possible)!

1

Before
Start with a flawless, even complexion. Skip any foundation that promises a luminous or radiant finish—dolls pretty much keep it matte. And don’t go crazy highlighting and contouring. A small amount of matte bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks is all you need.

2

Step 1: White Eye Shadow
Using a flat brush, pack white eye shadow onto your entire eyelid and carry the color down along the lower lash line.

3

Step 2: White Eyeliner
To make your peepers pop even more, apply white eyeliner to your waterline and the inners corners of your eyes. Andersen recommends using MAC’s Eye Kohl ($16) in Fascinating to get this wide-eyed look.

4

Step 3: False Lashes
Full, fluttery, doll-like eyelashes are the next order of business. First, apply strip lashes to your top lash line. Just measure them to your eye and trim the excess before applying. Andersen also says it’s important to let the glue sit and get tacky for a few seconds. Then, use tweezers to perfectly place individual lashes all along your lower lash line.

Need more tips on how to apply false lashes flawlessly? Check Andersen’s tutorial here.

5

Step 4: Bright Blush
Swirl a peachy pink blush, like Laura Mercier’s Crème Cheek Color ($25) in Sunrise, onto just the apples of your cheeks. Crack a smile to find the apples of your cheeks, and use circular motions to concentrate the color there.

6

Step 5: Faux Freckles
To create doll-like freckles, use brown gel eyeliner and a precision brush, or a sharp brown eye pencil. Sprinkle them across your nose and cheeks, making them different sizes and varying the strength of color. If one gets too dark, Andersen says you can just press the spot with your finger a few times to soften it.

7

Step 6: Pink Lipstick
Finish off your doll-inspired makeup look with a bright pink lip. Skip gloss, and go with matte or semi-matte lipstick. Try Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour ($35) in La Diva.

8

Done!
And that’s it—you’re Halloween ready!

*Just add bow.

topknot_cover

The top knot, a.k.a the world’s easiest hair style (and quite possibly our favorite). Why? For starters, it’s wearable by everyone regardless of what texture your hair is.

In the modeling industry we dig it because it gets your hair up and away from your face, highlighting your cheekbones and accentuating your overall bone structure. We can’t explain it, but in general this look somehow just makes everyone look younger and fresher.

But what we really really love is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Everyone has their own go-to method that suits their hair and their personal style. No more than a twist and a tie, there’s really no tutorial necessary for this one. Whether it’s perfect, or super casual, your bun is like your hair fingerprint. It says a lot about you.

There’s a whole mess of buns out there (no bun, I mean pun, intended). So instead of a tutorial, what we will give you is a plethora of what we like to call Bunspo: inspiration for your perfect top-knotted bun.

And last but not least, here’s a little Bunspo gallery courtesy of Le Fashion‘s article, “16 Buns for Any Occasion“.

What does your top knot say about you!?

Use #Bunspo to show us how you rock this look and we’ll add your picture along with your Instagram/Twitter handle to the gallery!

Here are some of our favorites so far!
