Lauren Johnson

Summer is here, and there are plenty of good vibes and bright colors to light up our lives for the next few months! Lauren Johnson, with her natural ability to consistently dazzle her onlookers, radiates herpositive energy in her latest spread for the sixth issue of Awkward.World. In each issue, Awkward.World selects a message-embedded theme that is relatable to it’s audience, and then branches off into individual concepts to support their story.

For this issue, Awkward.World, chose to portray the teen world in all it’s love, glory, and of course, awkwardness! Lauren’s spread is titled “Rainbow Girl,” where she displays a wide range of expressions. Her choices of expressions reflect the various amounts of feels  that one goes through while traveling through their teenage years, all while promoting an optimistic outlook when comforting self-doubt. “Live life to the max” is a popular message that has stood the test of time, and it is very stimulating to see it being intertwined with modern art. Whether you’re in high school or are at the peak of your adult-career, everyone can find something to relate to when glancing through this shoot.

There’s a story behind every outfit, and a few days ago we were lucky enough to have our very own Lauren Johnson share some of her style secrets with us. Thrift store shopping is essential- she hunts down gorgeous vintage pieces then mixes and matches them with her favorite brands. Growing up, she learned a lot from her Grandmother, who taught her to take pride in doing things herself. To this day she still creates the pottery she used to make with her (her backpack is her pottery bag!) and creates her own clothing, like the undershirt worn in this outfit. Lauren says her Granny is the perfect example of a strong woman, and we couldn’t agree more based on this GirlBoss outfit! Keep scrolling to check out Lauren’s personal style.

The Unexpected Accessory That Makes Any Outfit Pop

When you think of spring, pinks, pastels, and the like probably come to mind. But if your style isn’t overly feminine, what’s a girl to do? The key is to keep your outfit clean and simple, adding hints of color in the form of an unexpected power accessory: your lips. With sunny weather in full swing, there’s no better time than now to play up your pout with COVERGIRL’s Oh Sugar! collection. From layering your shades to creating a just-bitten look, this is how you make your lips the hero of your outfit.

Scroll down for three stylish ways to make your pout stand out.

If you want your lips to be the focal point of your look, opt for a simple silhouette in white, like this dress from the Who What Wear collection exclusively sold at Target.

When wearing neutrals, it’s easy to pile on the jewelry. But in this case, layering necklaces and earrings could distract from your lips. Instead, add a skinny scarf that’ll help keep the attention on your pout.

Using COVERGIRL Oh Sugar! Lipstick in Punch, apply to lips straight from the tube; add multiple layers to give your pout a just-bitten stained effect. The rest of your makeup should be light and natural; after adding a hint of color to your lids, finish your look with multiple coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Full Lash Bloom Mascara to emphasize your lashes and make them stand out.

3 Secrets to Toughening up Spring’s Floral Trend

What’s on every fashion girl’s mind? Spring’s arrival and the need to refresh–and ace–spring style. Take florals, for example: the classic print is taking center stage this season, and it’s begging to be modernized. So what’s the trick to making something timeless look more on trend? The solution isn’t in your closet, it’s actually in your makeup bag. With the help of COVERGIRL‘s truNaked Shadow Palette and Waterproof Eyeliner Duo, you can tackle any wardobe dilemna. From adding a smoky bronze eye to winging it, this is how to add some drama to your look and take your spring florals to the next level.

Scroll down for tips on making your floral prints edgy, along with some serious outfit inspiration.

WHO WHAT WEAR Tip 1

Looking to tone down the floral print? Top off your look with an edgy leather moto jacket, like this one from the Who What Wear collection exclusively sold at Target.

 Who What Wear Tip 2

Skinny scarves are having a major moment right now, so take advantage, because they’re one of the easiest ways to make your look instantly cool, just like a smoky eye. To get the perfect smoky eye, using COVERGIRL’s truNaked Shadow Palette in 810, apply Ginger over the entire lid, add Sunkissed to the inner corner of the eye, and blend the eye shadow in.

Who What Wear Tip 3

When you’re unsure of how to style your florals, just wing it. A defined cat eye adds drama and edge to any outfit. To complete the look, grab the truNaked Waterproof Eyeliner Duo in Ebony to draw a clean cat eye, adding a more defined winged tip with Sierra from the shadow palette.

It’s time

Why is fitness important to you?

Aside from the obvious health benefits of being active on a regular basis, it is a stress reliever, and extreme mood booster.  It’s been a way to connect to other individuals through the love of living an active, healthy lifestyle.  You feel productive while you are bonding with others.

Did you play sports in school?

I played basketball, track and field (hurdles, 4×100, 100m dash and 200m dash), and after high school, was on a kickball team for a little bit.

What’s the secret to your amazing body?

Of course keeping up with an active weekly plan is important, as well as eating lots of veggies and fruits, but I honestly believe that having a good balance of what society considers “ no to treats and sweets” is important as well.  This may be a stretch for some people, but for me being happy is the first step to having an amazing body and mind.

Are there any workouts you’re dying to try?

I haven’t tried the barre classes that everyone is in love with, and I have definitely been curious to try!

Do you see a difference in your mood when you don’t get to the gym?

Yes! Not just the gym, but any outdoor activity.  I don’t need to workout everyday, nor do I think it is the best for your body, but when I don’t keep up with my typical activity level, I feel sluggish.

You don’t believe in diets. Why not?

I think there needs to be balance, but I feel that diets are usually short term, and lifestyle eating is well, for life 🙂 I lifestyle eat, not diet. Ya feel me?

What’s in your fridge right now?

Tons of berries, pomegranate seeds, apples, almond milk, chocolate cashew milk, spinach, red/green peppers, broccoli, carrots, hummus, salsa, greek yogurt, chia seeds, quinoa chocolate bars, homemade bread, homemade chocolate raspberry mousse, hamburger buns, nut butters of all kinds, and basically every condiment!

What’s one fitness move should every woman know?

Sumo squat with weights –  I love it because it can zip up your booty, abs, inner thighs, and hamstrings.  Other variations can also tone your calves, and arms.  Also, the happy baby stretch! I know its not a “fitness” move, but it is a great hip opener and feels great after a run!

What’s your best confidence-boosting trick?

I take my lipstick and write on the mirror loving quotes or words.  My mom does this at home, and it is such a sweet reminder that lipstick is used mainly to enhance beauty, but using it to enhance inner beauty is so much cooler to me.

What songs are on your iPod?

I actually trained myself not to listen to music when I workout.  I use my inner thoughts and dialogue to keep me going, plus I’ve learned to do some critical thinking. Outside of workouts, I love anything old school, Al Green, James Brown, funky town music!

Happiness, a brand known for having THE most adorable social media photos, launched a new collection at Kyle by Alene Too in Beverly Hills last Friday night. A few Nous Models have shot for the brand as of late, so when we got the invite to attend, we RSVP’d: TOTES. Not only did we have a super-fun time, we got to learn more about the brand and what they’re about. Here’s the rundown:

5 Reasons to Live in HAPPINESS

1. Happiness was born out of love (literally). It all started in 2007 on the first day of classes at FIDM, when two students met, fell in love, and teamed up their complementary degrees in Merchandise Marketing and Merchandise Product Development to create a clothing brand that would bring their vision of Happiness to life.

2. It’s family-style. Both Eiman and Michael (now married) have brought in their siblings and parents into the business; with the Hamza’s taking care of business in LA while the Scarpellinis are holding down the fort in Milan. Talk about goals!

3. If you don’t want to #SpreadHappiness, you should probably reevaluate some things. Um, hello!? Why wouldn’t you want to wear something that makes people happy? Imagine it now: it’s a sad, rainy day. You get up, put on your snuggly “Positive Vibes Only” sweatshirt and mentally prepare yourself for the gloomy day ahead. Except as you go about your day, people see the casual reminder on your threads, and they smile. Seeing their delight, you smile back at them. Now everyone’s smiling. It’s a no-brainer. Look cool, feel good and #spreadhappiness.

4. Athleisure is the new black. Well not really, but we think you get what we mean. Gone are the days (re:nights) that required you to wear bodycon dresses and high heels to be party-ready. This is 2015, afterall. We’re all professional multitaskers now. We can be cool, confident AND comfortable all at the same time. You don’t even have to take our word for it, it’s Gigi Hadid-approved.

5. You’ll find Bridget, Holly, and Lauren smiling back at you from ShopHappiness.com. I mean, we may be a little biased here, but our girls not only look the best, they are the best IRL. Just trust us when we say these are three of the coolest, kindest, Happiest girls you’ll ever meet. No false marketing here.
