First off tell us how you were discovered and how your modeling career all started?
I was a tall, awkward teenager that played soccer and didn’t think much about fashion. I was discovered while shopping at my local mall when The Elite Model Look of the Year competition happened in my hometown of Walnut Creek, CA. and they asked if I’d compete. I still had my braces on and almost fell off the runway because I’d never worn heels before.linebreak

linebreakWhat’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
There are so many, but one that comes to mind is a commercial I shot in Patagonia for Garnier. It was such a beautiful area of Argentina. I ate the freshest trout for dinner every night and shot in the mountains every day. Bariloche is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited.

Do you ever get shy in front of the camera?
No. One of my first shoots, when I was maybe 14, the client asked me to jump up and down and ribbit like a frog. You can’t really be embarrassed or shy or take yourself very seriously in this business. The things clients and art directors ask you to do are so varied, you have to be ready for anything!

Tell us a bit about your mother agency and what you like most about them.
I’ve been with my booker Kenya Knight at Nous since I was 14. She is a strong, fierce businesswoman with a very kind heart. I probably wouldn’t still be modeling if it wasn’t for her guidance.linebreak

linebreakWhat are the main challenges in modeling today?
When I first started modeling you had to build a really strong portfolio and hustle every day going on castings and go-sees in all the major fashion cities to get ahead. Clients would book you based on the work you’d done and whether you were right for the job. Now a lot of times clients book girls based on how many Instagram followers they have and what their social media presence is like. It’s challenging because you have to do a lot more self-promotion in general now. So, in addition to attending castings and go-sees and submitting video castings for International jobs, getting new images for your portfolio, eating healthy, working out, traveling to and from bookings, and modeling/working on set you also have to post on FB, Instagram and Twitter and have your own blog and website. It takes a lot of time! Also, major beauty brands use actresses, singers and social media celebrities more now, so there is less work out there for fashion models.

What is your favorite healthy snack?
I usually have a Kind bar in my bag at all times! When I travel for work I always have almonds and dried fruit with me.

What’s your beauty regimen like?
I wash my face every night and use organic oils that my friend Hollie Witchey@witcheyhandmade makes by hand upstate. I catch up on sleep on my days off which is a necessity since call times can be pretty early and the days are long on set. I practically live on airplanes so hydrating is important. And catching up with friends over a glass of wine and laughing is also key to staying beautiful!linebreak
